Project CENTER LANE matters because it is one of the rare black-program stories where the strange part is not invented. The U.S. Army really did run a classified remote-viewing effort inside INSCOM. Declassified records describe CENTER LANE as a Special Access Program that used remote viewing as an intelligence collection method, followed earlier GRILL FLAME work, and sat inside the larger chain of SCANATE, GRILL FLAME, SUN STREAK, and STAR GATE.
