Project Acoustic Kitty mattered because it exposed a particular Cold War temptation: if the technical challenge was hard enough, perhaps biology could carry the device where machines could not yet go. What the CIA wanted was not simply a trained animal. It wanted an intelligence platform disguised as an ordinary cat, able to drift close to hostile conversations without attracting suspicion. In that form, Acoustic Kitty became more than a quirky spy story.
